Society is increasingly dependent upon solving complex problems of a numerical, quantitative, and statistical nature. These all require logical thought. The Mathematics major  is a solid introduction to all aspects of mathematics. It helps students prepare for the exciting challenges of today and tomorrow. Additionally, for those students who are undecided about a career, a Mathematics major proves an excellent background in critical thinking and problem solving.

The Mathematics for Secondary Education option  gives high-quality academic preparation to students who wish to become Colorado licensed grades 7-12 math teachers. This option is extremely demanding and requires careful planning and advising. Students choosing this option should consult a Math Department advisor as early as possible in their careers, and should read the Teacher Education Licensure Program  section of this catalog for the steps and requirements for applying to and requirements for completing the program. Students should be advised that the minimum hour requirement shown here to complete this option assumes that the student is ready to begin with MATH 221  and COMP 150  in their Freshman year. An incoming placement into courses that are prerequisites for either of these courses will likely result in completing the program in more than four years.
