Baccalaureate & Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure

Director of Teacher Education: Richard Fulton
Email: fulton_r@fortlewis.edu

There are two undergraduate pathways to teacher licensure, one for baccalaureate students and the other for post-baccalaureate students.

Baccalaureate Licensure

Students who are earning their first Bachelor’s Degree may apply to enter any one of the licensure programs. Baccalaureate students can add the required education courses for teacher licensure to their major course of study in place of free elective courses. Baccalaureate students must adhere to the Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure Requirements . Students must be admitted to the Teacher Licensure program to enroll in 400-level ED prefix courses. Students must subsequently be admitted to Student Teaching.

Post-Baccalaureate Licensure

Students who have earned a Bachelor’s Degree may apply to enter any one of the licensure programs. As post-baccalaureate students are not seeking a degree, they are admitted to Fort Lewis College under the category: Unclassified with degree, teacher certification, Education. The time to complete the Post-Baccalaureate Licensure program varies by program and depends on the number of courses applied to the program from the student’s undergraduate curriculum. The Director of Teacher Education serves as the contact person for curriculum advising. Post-baccalaureate students must adhere to Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure Requirements .
