The Forensic Studies Minor is an interdisciplinary minor that allows students to explore some of the social and natural sciences with applications to the law. While an advanced degree or additional training is required for many careers in forensic science, this minor, along with a relevant major field of study will provide an important foundation for students interested in pursuing a career in the forensic sciences. Forensic scientists may work for law enforcement, the government, universities and colleges, forensic laboratories, medical examiner/coroners offices or as independent consultants. In addition to providing expertise in criminal cases, forensic scientists may be called upon to assist with mass disasters and war crimes.

Students who minor in Forensic Studies will be required to take a minimum of 23 credits, including four core courses in the fields of anthropology, criminology, biology and psychology as well as two elective courses outside a student’s major in two of four areas, including anthropology, biology, social sciences and psychology.
