REQUIREMENTS FOR A CERTIFICATE IN GERONTOLOGY:

A student majoring in any discipline may complete a certificate in Gerontology upon satisfactory fulfilling the core and elective requirements:

Core Courses:

PH 101 - Principles of Public Health Credits: 3 ^g
PSYC 254 - Lifespan Human Development Credits: 3 ^g
SOC 320 - Community Internship Credits: 1-16 ^g - minimum three (3) credits.
SOC 323 - Sociology of Aging Credits: 3 ^g

Elective Courses:

Complete six (6) credits from the list below:

ANTH 151 - Introduction to Anthropology Credits: 3 ^g
ANTH 246 - Human Biological Variation Credits: 3 ^g
BIO 140 - Introduction to Human Disease Credits: 3 ^g
BIO 234 - Human Physiology Credits: 4 ^g
GSS 280 - Issues in Women’s Health Credits: 3 ^g
HIST 307 - History of Disease Credits: 3 ^g
PSYC 384 - Compassion Credits: 3
PSYC 393 - Health Psychology Credits: 3 ^g
PHIL 142 - Ethics Credits: 3 ^g
SOC 279 - Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Class Credits: 3 ^g
OR
GSS 279 - Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Class Credits: 3 ^g

Prior to course registration, students should review all courses for prerequisites, minimum prerequisite grade requirements and minimum class standing.

^g A grade of C or better will be accepted for the certificate.

Note: At least 50% of the coursework toward the certificate must be earned at Fort Lewis College.
