MU 415 - Literature/Conversation: Writing About Music

The purpose of this course is to help students develop an understanding of what constitutes literacy within the discipline of music, and to integrate critical analysis with writing and creative performance. Students will be required to read and discuss examples of scholarly writing that will include program notes, journal articles, grant proposals, and concert reviews. They will then be required to practice and refine their own writing skills using these formal models. The process will include multiple drafts and extensive feedback as well as individual guidance and instruction.
