PSYC 474 - Multicultural Counseling Psychology


This discussion-based course explores the latest trends in multicultural counseling. Multicultural competencies (awareness, knowledge, skills) are emphasized. Cultural humility, social justice implications, privilege, systemic oppression, microaggressions, communication styles, multicultural evidence-based practice, strengths-based assessment, and Indigenous methods of healing are explored. The foundational skills learned here are likely to be useful for counseling or just living in an increasingly multicultural world.
