The John F. Reed Honors Program is an interdisciplinary academic enrichment program available to a select group of high-achieving students. Students must have earned at least 30 credits at Fort Lewis College and must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in order to be eligible to apply to the Program. They must also have taken an Honors class at the time they apply.
Most students apply during their sophomore year. Students who are accepted to the Program are working toward the Rhetoric of Inquiry minor, which includes proposing, researching, writing, and presenting an Honors thesis. Honors Program students must take at least five Honors forums; these are unique two-credit classes that are open to all Fort Lewis College students. They are taught by faculty from across campus and include classes that focus on innovative thinkers, on intellectual foundations, and on interdisciplinary perspectives.
Honors Program students also take an advanced composition class in preparation for their senior Honors thesis class. The John F. Reed Honors Program is overseen by the Honors Council, a group of faculty committed to providing an extraordinary academic experience to Fort Lewis College students, and an Honors Program Coordinator.
