The Department of Modern Languages offers a major in Spanish and minors in French and Spanish. Through the five skills areas of reading, writing, speaking, comprehension, and culture, students learn to communicate effectively in a range of environments while learning about Spanish and French-speaking countries, literatures, and traditions. We encourage our students to study abroad in their choice of program and country, and support learning with an active language lab, computer-based language programs, music, film, and a range of cultural events. Often, during the summer, there are programs that provide opportunities for students to travel and study abroad with their classmates and faculty.
Students may choose from different major options in Spanish, including the Spanish - U.S. Latino Studies , Spanish - Latin American Studies , Spanish - K-12 Teaching , and a more traditional major in Spanish . Students interested in completing a major in French may pursue a student-constructed French major.
