Like detectives of the mind, psychologists investigate the phenomena of perception, cognition, emotion, and personality, seeking to understand the role these mental functions play in society. It is detective work that takes skill, practice, patience, and insight.
The Psychology Major is modern, broad, liberal arts-oriented, and tailored to the needs of today’s students, the current job market, and the ever changing demands of the profession. The core courses provide the basic concepts and skills needed by all psychology majors. Flexibility is built into the curriculum by means of the psychology electives that guide each student toward breadth as well as depth via groups of related courses that will better prepare them for future career and educational options. Through a top-quality program built on the diverse content of modern American psychology, students build their skills in research, writing, speaking, and critical thinking – powerful tools in any field or career where human behavior is a factor.
A minor in Psychology is available for students majoring in other disciplines.
