GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Certificate

REQUIREMENTS FOR A CERTIFICATE IN GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS):

A student majoring in any discipline may complete a certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) upon satisfactory fulfilling the core and elective requirements.

Core Courses:

GEOG 310 - Introduction to Computer Mapping and GIS Credits: 4 ^g
GEOG 315 - GIS Programming and Web Mapping Credits: 2 ^g
GEOG 350 - Intermediate GIS: Vector Credits: 3 ^g
GEOG 400 - Advanced GIS: Raster Credits: 3 ^g

GIS Capstone Course:

Complete one (1) course.

GEOG 480 - Internship in GIS Credits: 1-3 ^g- minimum one (1) credit
GEOG 499 - Independent Study Credits: 1-3 ^g- minimum one (1) credit

Certificate Electives:

Complete Option A or Option B.

Option A:

GEOG 325 - Introduction to Remote Sensing Credits: 4

Option B:

ENGR 205 - Introduction to Geomatics and Engineering Surveying Credits: 3 ^g
MATH 121 - Pre-Calculus Credits: 4 ^g

TOTAL REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATE - CREDITS: 20

^g A grade of C or better will be accepted for the certificate.

Note: At least 50% of the coursework toward the certificate must be earned at Fort Lewis College.
