Pre-Health Certificate


REQUIREMENTS FOR A CERTIFICATE IN PRE-HEALTH:


A student majoring in any discipline may complete a certificate in Pre-Health upon satisfactory fulfilling the core and elective requirements:

Mathematics Core


You must complete one (1) course. Some students may need to take all three courses depending on concentration pathway. 

Certificate Electives


Students must declare one (1) concentration. 

Dentistry Concentration:


Completing the concentration does not fulfill all prerequisites for every dental program and does not certify that a student is a competitive candidate for dental school.  Prerequisites for dental schools vary. Prerequisites for dental school also include courses that are part of the liberal arts core (e.g. COMP 150 ). Competitive candidates for dental school typically have average GPA for the courses listed of 3.5 or higher.    

Medical Lab Science Concentration:


The Colorado Center for Medical Laboratory Science (CCMLS) at Metropolitan State University (MSU) Denver is a post-BS curriculum and a year in length. It prepares individuals to enter certified positions in the nation’s clinical laboratories most located in medical centers and hospitals but also in reference labs including molecular diagnostics reference labs. 

Medicine Concentration:


Completing the concentration does not fulfill all prerequisites for every medical school and does not certify that a student is a competitive candidate for medical school.  Prerequisites for medical schools vary. Significant clinical experience is required to be competitive at many schools. Prerequisites for medical school also include courses that are part of the liberal arts core (e.g. COMP 150 , PSYC 157 ).  Competitive candidates for medical school typically have average GPA for the courses listed of 3.5 or higher.    

Pharmacy Concentration:


Completing the concentration does not fulfill all prerequisites for every pharmacy program and does not certify that a student is a competitive candidate for pharmacy school.  Prerequisites for pharmacy schools vary. Prerequisites for pharmacy school also include courses that are part of the liberal arts core (e.g. COMP 150 ).  Competitive candidates for pharmacy school typically have average GPA for the courses listed of 3.5 or higher.    

Physical Therapy Concentration:


Completing the concentration does not fulfill all prerequisites for every physical therapy (PT) program and does not certify a student is a competitive candidate for PT school. Prerequisites for PT schools vary and it is recommended that students consult the American Physical Therapy Association list of prerequisites by institution.  Prerequisites for some PT schools also include courses that are part of the liberal arts core (e.g. COMP 150 , MATH 132 , PSYC 157 ). Competitive candidates for PT school carry an average GPA for all courses listed of 3.0 or higher.   

Physician Assistant Concentration:


Completing the concentration does not fulfill all prerequisites for every physician assistant (PA) program and does not certify that a student is a competitive candidate for PA school.  Prerequisites for PA schools vary.  Some schools require significant clinical experience to apply. Prerequisites for PA school also include courses that are part of the liberal arts core (e.g. COMP 150 ). Competitive candidates for PA school typically have average GPA for the courses listed of 3.5 or higher. 

Veterinary Concentration:


Completing the concentration does not fulfill all prerequisites for every veterinary medical program and does not certify a student is a competitive candidate for veterinary medical school.  Prerequisites for veterinary medical schools vary.  Prerequisites for veterinary medical school also include courses that are part of the liberal arts core (e.g. MATH 113 , COMP 150 ).  And competitive candidates for veterinary medical school carry an average GPA for all courses listed of 3.5 or higher

TOTAL REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATE - CREDITS: 41-44


Prior to course registration, students should review all courses for prerequisites, minimum prerequisite grade requirements and minimum class standing.

g A grade of C or better will be accepted for the certificate.

Note: At least 50% of the coursework toward the certificate must be earned at Fort Lewis College.
