REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LANGUAGE REVITALIZTION CERTIFICATE

A student majoring in any discipline may complete a Language Revitalization certificate upon satisfactory fulfilling the core and elective requirements.

Note: A grade of C or better is required in all courses required for the certificate.

Immersive Internship Core Courses:

Students must enroll in the following three courses. All three courses can be taken at the same time in a students community.

BL 351 - Internship in Borders and Languages Credits: 1-12 (must be taken for a minimum of six (6) credits to meet program requirements)
NAIS 493 - Internship in Native American and Indigenous Studies Credits: 1-6 (must be taken for a minimum of three (3) credits to meet program requirements)
SOC 315 - Field Methods Credits: 3

On-line Core Courses:

BL 110 - Teaching Indigenous Languages: Identity and Language Revitalization Credits: 1
BL 111 - Teaching Indigenous Languages: Technology and Language Revitalization Credits: 1
BL 112 - Teaching Indigenous Languages: Creative Design Practice and Language Revitalization Credits: 1

Indigenous Language Courses:

Complete one of the following courses on indigenous language:

NAIS 125 - Foundations of Diné Language Credits: 3
NAIS 225 - Native American Languages Credits: 3

TOTAL REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATE - CREDITS: 18

Prior to course registration, students should review all courses for prerequisites, minimum prerequisite grade requirements and minimum class standing.

Note: At least 50% of the coursework toward the certificate must be earned at Fort Lewis College.
