CHEM 250 - Organic Chemistry I: Organic Compounds Fundamentals of bonding, structure and nomenclature of carbon compounds. Principles of stereochemistry and reaction mechanisms are introduced and illustrated with alkanes, alkenes, alcohols and alkyl halides. Acid-base, nucleophilic substitution, electrophilic addition, and elimination reactions are discussed. The laboratory addresses techniques of synthesis, separation and analysis of organic compounds.
