PHIL 271 - Logic An introduction to the methods for assessing the quality of arguments paying special attention both to (a) the identification of arguments in English prose and (b) the evaluation of an argument’s validity or strength. Issues covered include informal fallacies of reasoning; introductory probability theory; categorical reasoning; Venn diagrams; and translations, truth-tables and natural deduction in propositional logic.
