The Philosophy  program prepares students for a reflective and responsible life by focusing their attention on the central questions of human existence and by equipping them with the skills in critical thinking essential to success in graduate school, employment, and life more broadly. The program offers a rigorous study of fundamental questions about the nature of reality, the values we hold, and the justification of our beliefs.  Students develop the ability to read historical and contemporary texts carefully, to discern and evaluate arguments, to articulate their own views, and to present their positions with clarity in written and oral form.  Graduates of the program are able to apply the methods of conceptual clarification and evaluation they have learned in philosophy to other areas of inquiry in their lives.
